Ex-cop, pal sold guns for NBP inmate – CIDG

MANILA, Philippines — Two suspected gunrunners of an inmate at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) were arrested by operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in an entrapment operation in Pasay City on Sunday, police said yesterday.

Maurito Reniedo, a  former policeman, and Gerry Desoacido were caught with a caliber 5.56 automatic rifle, a 9mm pistol, a .40 caliber pistol, five magazines of different calibers and assorted bullets at a nightclub along F.B. Harrison street at around 7:30 p.m., Senior Superintendent Wilson Asueta, who heads the CIDG’s National Capital Region office, said.

Asueta said the suspects are involved in gunrunning activities, selling firearms to unscrupulous individuals.

“They are connected to a prisoner inside the NBP,” the police official said in a text message.

Asueta did  not identify the inmate as there is an ongoing investigation.

Reniedo and Desoacido were brought to Camp Crame for booking. They were charged with violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
