Beauty clinic charged for woman’s death

MANILA, Philippines - Two doctors and three nurses of a beauty clinic were charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide before the Mandaluyong City prosecutor’s office yesterday in connection with a businesswoman’s death while undergoing cosmetic surgery.

Police said Samuel Eric Yapjuangco was the anesthesiologist while Jose Jovito Mendiola performed breast augmentation, liposuction and Brazilian buttock lift on Sheryl Saturnino, 29, on March 26.

Nurses Virgil Alex Ongleo, Alvin Carl Genove and Audrey Michelle Santos assisted during the operation.

Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, Eastern Police District director, said the EPD submitted as evidence Saturnino’s death certificate, pathology results and testimonies of several witnesses.

In filing the case yesterday, investigators were accompanied by Saturnino’s mother and family lawyer Ruel Asubar.
