MANILA, Philippines — Makati City Mayor Mar-Len Abigail Binay ordered Monday the retraining of Makati Public Safety Department (MAPSA) traffic enforcers to improve their professional competence and instill ethical practices in their ranks.
“There is an immediate need for our MAPSA traffic enforcers to undergo re-training on traffic rules and traffic management. Their training will also include values formation and personality development so that they can perform their jobs with competence, integrity and decorum,” Binay said in a statement.
Around 600 MAPSA traffic enforcers are set to undergo a refresher course starting August 27 until September 17 this year, Binay said.
Binay also encouraged the public to report erring MAPSA enforcers through the city’s official Twitter account, @MakatiTraffic, and My Makati on Facebook.
According to the Makati City government, MAPSA enforcers have been the targets of criticism in some social media sites for alleged extortion, rudeness and not wearing crash helmets when riding motorcycles.
Ricardo Suarez, officer-in-charge of MAPSA, said the training would cover topics aimed at improving their professional competence, promote ethical practices and personality development, among others.
Meanwhile, city personnel officer Vissia Marie Aldon said casual employees of MAPSA whose contracts lapsed last June 30, 2016 could still re-apply.
