MANILA, Philippines - A bullet hit the satellite office of Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in Pasay City on Sunday.
Police have yet to determine if the bullet came from a shooting incident or was meant for the senator’s office at the Sunset View Tower on Roxas Boulevard.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon but was reported only yesterday, according to city police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Joel Doria.
Reports said the bullet of a .45 caliber pistol went through a glass window and hit a metal plate in the senator’s private office, which is visible from the road.
Had the bullet gone through the metal plate, it could have hit the senator’s chair, authorities said.
Doria said they will question the building’s security guards who were on duty when the incident occurred at around 3 p.m.
He said he wanted to know why the guards failed to immediately report the incident.
Sources said the guards reported the incident on Sunday afternoon, but the senator’s office reportedly opted to have it investigated yesterday.
Marcos said he is taking the incident seriously, noting that one of their vehicles was shot in the area some months ago.
He visited the site yesterday to assess the situation.
“I hope this is just a case of stray bullet and had nothing to do with politics,” he said.
Marcos expressed hope the incident had nothing to do with his work as a senator. He asked the police to conduct a deeper probe of the incident.
He heads the Senate committee on the Bangsamoro Basic Law signed by the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
