Pinoys may still work in Libya

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine government has allowed the deployment of certain categories of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Libya amid the worsening security in the African country.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration issued a resolution allowing the deployment of Filipinos who will work in oil rig platforms and those working for the United Nations and other international organizations with offices in Libya.

Filipinos who are married to Libyan nationals are exempted from the deployment ban.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said OFWs going to Libya should not pass through the mainland.

She said the employers must guarantee the safety of the OFWs and must be ready for their repatriation if needed.

The Department of Foreign Affairs had ordered the mandatory repatriation of OFWs from Libya after militants beheaded a Filipino construction worker in Benghazi.
