MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has created the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 project coordinating committee to accelerate the completion of the project to decongest EDSA and the major roads in Metro Manila.

Aquino formed the committee by virtue of Memorandum Order 66 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. on Jan. 6.

After a long wait for the approval of its project, Citra Central Expressway Corp. (CCEC) will finally break ground for the 14.8-kilometer Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project and start preliminary work on Osmeña Highway from F. Torres street to Quirino Avenue in Manila.

CCEC, the Stage 3 proponent and concessionaire and a joint corporation of Citra Lamtoro Gung Persada and Philippine National Construction Corp. in partnership with San Miguel Corp., has scheduled the project’s groundbreaking on Jan. 23, according to STAR business columnist Boo Chanco.

Full-scale construction starts in April, with CCEC targeting completion of the project in 36 months or less.

Aquino emphasized the need to create a coordinating committee to ensure the fastest possible completion of the construction of the project and coordinate the various government agencies, local government units and private entities concerned.

The President said a representative from the Office of the Executive Secretary will chair the committee.
