DILG may sack employee for attack on MMDA constable

MANILA, Philippines - A Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) employee may be dismissed from service for allegedly attacking a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic constable.

The DILG’s legal service ordered Arvin Vinluan, a Region IV-A local government operations officer, to explain the allegations he attacked Jonard Jeramil when the MMDA constable accosted him for jaywalking along España Boulevard in Manila last Monday. The incident was caught on camera, and the video has since gone viral.

Vinluan also reportedly used his employment in the DILG to avoid being penalized for the offense.

DILG legal service chief Jesus Doque IV said the charge of grave misconduct, depending on the gravity, may also result in forfeiture of all benefits in government service, including retirement. “Those found guilty may also be banned from entering any position in government,” he said.

DILG Secretary Manuel Roxas II ordered the filing of administrative charges against Vinluan.
