Canada airport execs offer to help NAIA

MANILA, Philippines - Canada’s Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) is willing to share with Philippine airport authorities its best practices and experiences in managing the third best airport in the world, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday.

Ambassador to Canada Leslie Gatan visited Halifax Stanfield International Airport (HSIA) last April 13 to witness firsthand the airport management’s best practices that could be applied to Philippine airports, especially the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

“HSIA would be able to help us recall the simple things that make for a hassle-free travel experience without sacrificing the safety and security of all concerned,” Gatan said.

The 2011 global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) ratings show HSIA as third best in the world for overall passenger satisfaction in its category (under five million passengers). The HSIA started operations 50 years ago.

Travel website Frommer’s ranked the NAIA Terminal 1 as the second worst terminal in the world.
