MMDA OKs resumption of DPWH road repairs

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has lifted a moratorium on road repairs and allowed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to resume road repair projects Friday night.

The MMDA suspended public works along EDSA and other major roads Sept. 16 as strong typhoons were expected to hit the country.

The MMDA Traffic Engineering Center has identified five unfinished road reblocking sites as along EDSA near Trinoma (southbound), Congressional Road near Cherry Foodarama, EDSA near Ayala Avenue (southbound), Osmeña Highway between Magallanes and Zobel street (northbound) and along North Avenue (from EDSA to Elliptical Road).

Tolentino meanwhile reminded contractors that road works should start at 10 p.m. Friday and end early to make the work area passable to vehicles by 4 a.m. Monday.

The MMDA admitted earlier that road reblocking projects were one of the major causes of vehicular traffic jams in Metro Manila.
