3 Chinese men beat up countryman

Three Chinese nationals were picked up by the police yesterday for allegedly beating up another Chinese inside a mall in Binondo, Manila.

Shi Wei Jian, 19; Jas Chan, 20; and Ian Chan, 20; from Fujian, China, are now facing charges of physical injury and threats filed by their compatriot, Liqun Cai, alias King Wu, 21, a sales employee of a cellular phone stall in 168 Mall.

According to Police Officer 2 Ronald Carlos, the incident happened Tuesday when the three suspects went to the complainant’s stall to exchange a cell phone they claimed was purchased at the stall and is now malfunctioning. However, Liqun refused to change the cell phone since its warranty had already lapsed. This angered the three suspects and they beat up Liqun.

Liqun was treated at the Ospital ng Maynila for multiple body and head injuries. Liqun said he sought police assistance because the three suspects – who are all employed at different stalls at the 168 Mall, started to threaten him.

SPO4 Ferdinand Cantillas said the police have a hard time questioning the suspects since they can only speak a little English.

Cantillas said he will check the three suspects’ residency status with the Bureau of Immigration. — Nestor Etolle
