Parañaque opens birthing home for indigents

Pregnant women who cannot afford to go to hospitals or lying-in clinics can now avail themselves of the services of a birthing facility in Parañaque City for free.

“Services are free for qualified patients. The idea is to have them deliver their babies under the care of medical experts and not traditional hilots,” Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. told The Star in an interview.

According to him, it is dangerous for mothers to give birth to a child in their homes just because they cannot afford to go to a doctor.

“This birthing home has four beds. This is enough to care for those who are going to give birth since they will have to stay here for only a day or two,” he said.

Bernabe said the birthing home is located in Barangay San Martin de Porres. – Michael Punongbayan
