Messenger killed after withdrawing money from bank

Two armed men robbed and shot dead a 50-year-old messenger in Sta. Mesa, Manila after he had withdrawn more than P65,000 from a Metrobank branch in Mandaluyong City the other day.

Senior Police Officer 2 Richard Lumbad said Alfredo Malixi, employed by St. Dominick Industry, was walking along Pat Antonio street in Sta. Mesa past 10 a.m. when he was waylaid by two men on a motorcycle. One of the suspects tried to grab his bag containing P65,584, which the victim had just encashed from a Metrobank branch in Kalentong, Mandaluyong City.

When Malixi resisted, one of the suspects shot him repeatedly. The suspects then took his bag and sped away.

Bystanders rushed the victim to the Lourdes Hospital but he died hours later while undergoing treatment for two gunshot wounds in the back and abdomen.

Lumbad said the suspects could have studied the routine of the victim, since he regularly encashed checks at the Metrobank branch in Kalentong.

“It is also a puzzle why the robbers knew that the victim was carrying a large amount of money,” he told The STAR.

Lumbad said he will also look into the possibility that some bank security guards could be providing robbers with inside information on bank clients.
