Caloocan soon to allow regulated street parking

-
The Caloocan City government, in an effort to find a long term solution to its traffic problem, will soon allow regulated street parking with the implementation of a city ordinance known as the Traffic Management Code (TMC).

Mayor Reynaldo Malonzo, prior to the approval of the TMC or City Ordinance 0334, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Jadewell Parking Systems Corp. for the purpose of establishing an integrated traffic management system.

Under the scheme, a parking meter designed to receive payment using a coin or card for the use of the parking space will be installed in the city streets declared as pay-parking areas.

A ticket will then be obtained from the parking meter bearing the prescribed charge for the use of the parking space.

In parking areas where a parking meter is not yet available, an attendant will collect the parking fee and issue the receipt.

The implementation of the integrated traffic management system is expected to not only regulate the parking of vehicles, but also to provide additional income to the city as 20 percent of the total collection of the parking proceeds would go to the city coffer.

Aside from being a source of additional revenue, the regulated street parking would also generate employment opportunities among the city residents.

Jadewell Parking System Corp. manager Rogelio Tan said that parking attendants would be hired to supervise and assist drivers and vehicle owners in the proper use of the parking spaces. – Pete Laude
