Boy, 12, killed by drug user

A 12-year-old boy was stabbed dead the other night by a suspected drug addict in front of his school in Novaliches, Quezon City.

Victim John Rey Banag, of Block 3, Lot 59, Scorpio Alley, Goodwill Townhomes, Novaliches, suffered stab wounds in the body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Bernardino Hospital.

Police are now conducting follow-up investigations to arrest the suspect, known only in the area as a certain "Felipe". He fled right after the attack.

According to reports, the incident took place at about 9 p.m. right in front of Goodwill Elementary School. The victim, who was a Grade 4 pupil of the said school, was riding tandem on his bike with his friend, Andrew, when the suspect appeared out of nowhere and blocked their path.

Banag did not alight from his bike and instead tried to steer away from the suspect. But without warning, "Felipe" took out a bladed weapon and lunged at the victim.

The suspect, who was said to be high on drugs at the time, repeatedly stabbed Banag in the back and chest.

The suspect fled the area as Andrew screamed for help.

Neighbors rushed the bloodied Banag to the hospital where he expired at about 9:20 p.m.
