‘Take economy outside Metro’

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Cebu Provincial Chapter suggested that light industries should be spread to towns outside Metro Cebu to solve traffic congestion and environment-related problems.

LMMP President Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante said with the problems encountered within Metro Cebu, there is a need to spread the development to adjacent towns and cities.

Diamante said as he was a member of the Metro Cebu Development Council, he knows metro’s problems like traffic, increasing number of informal settlers and other issues related to environment.

According to Mayor Diamante, based on the problems and issues affecting Metro Cebu towns and cities, the league created the Municipalities Development Framework.

The mayor said the league hired the services of consultants to prepare the plan for towns outside Metro Cebu.

However, Diamante said they will also be closely coordinating with officials and members of Metro Cebu Development Council.

Diamante believes there is a need for a long term plan for towns outside Metro Cebu to attract more investors in the future.

He stressed that with the masterplan, town officials will have a direction in implementing plans and programs especially in luring more investments in.

He further said the masterplan is in support to the plans and programs under the administration of Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III.
