65% of Lapu-Lapu City jail inmates face drug charges

CEBU, Philippines - Sixty-five percent of inmates detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail face drug-related cases.

Lapu-Lapu CityJail warden Chief Inspector Renante Rubio told The Freeman that many of the inmates have sold illegal drugs to make ends meet.

“Tungod sa grabeng kalisud kadaghanan sa mga nadakpan miingon gyud nga napugos lang gyud sila pagpamaligya og shabu kay wala sila’y laing panginabuhian,” Rubio said.

The 104 women inmates have the same reasons for pushing illegal drugs, JaiI Inspector Jonnabelle Roils, warden of the Lapu-Lapu City Jail Women’s detention cell, said.   (FREEMAN)
