Liloan to hold public hearing on installation of circuit tv, video

CEBU, Philippines - The municipal council of Liloan will conduct a public hearing on December 3, to get the sentiments of residents regarding the proposed ordinance mandating the installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) or Video Surveillance System in the premises of business and industrial establishments in the town with a capitalization of P3 million.

Aside from those required to have a capitalization of P3 million, also required to put up cameras are banks and other financial entities, schools, and other learning institutions, and in public places.

Municipal council Secretary Jose Crisologo said notices have been sent to the different business and industrial establishments.

Municipal Councilor Lurgio Cañete, who introduced the proposed ordinance, said the main objective of the measure is to provide a deterrent to crimes and vandalism.

Under the proposed ordinance, all banks, department stores, shopping malls, secondary schools, college and universities, gasoline stations, pawnshops, lending institutions, convenience stores, and similar establishments are required to install CCTVs.

The proposed ordinance further states that the municipal government and concerned national agencies shall likewise install CCTV in public buildings or places such as markets, terminals, plazas or parks, main thoroughfares or in the entrance and exit points of the city as maybe recommended by the chief of police.

Establishments subject to the mandatory requirements of the ordinance shall have six months from its effective date to comply with the regulation set forth of the ordinance.

The chief of police of the town has been tasked to look into violations.

Violators shall have 30 days after receipt of notice to provide proof of compliance.
