Mandaue is ready in case water rises

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes called up an emergency meeting with the member of the city council and members of the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council to map out plans with regards the continuous rains.

Cortes reminded all cluster heads to be always on alert and to warn residents near the Butuanon River and at Mahiga and Tipolo creeks in barangays Subangdaku and Tipolo.

Drivers of heavy equipment and dump trucks in coordination with the personnel of ACCERT are also ready for any urgent situations.

Personnel of the City Social Welfare Office confirmed its readiness to distribute food in case of evacuation.

Earlier, Ernie Manatad of barangay Subangdaku and president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) told barangay captains to keep an eye on buri palm trees.

Last week, a buri tree fell on a house in barangay Cubacub, killing a ten-year-old boy in his sleep.
