CEBU, Philippines - In a resolution, officials of barangay Maribago in Lapu-Lapu City have aired their concern for the possible abuse of the rights of women in restaurant-bars and disco houses.

The resolution seeks to prohibit the exhibition of obscene and indecent shows in such places which impair and abuse the rights of women.

Barangay Maribago Councilor Arvin Abing, who introduced the resolution said it is the policy of the state to provide special protection to women against all forms of abuse.

He said obscene and indecent shows are forms of abuse that violate laws and statutes that protect women’s rights.

The barangay resolution states that resto-bars and disco houses and other similar establishments are common grounds where indecent and obscene shows are held in the guise of local entertainment.

In line with the thrust of the local government of Maribago, the resolution said safeguarding the best interest of women is a paramount consideration and protecting women from all forms of violence and abuses is constantly upheld. (FREEMAN NEWS)
