Mandaue determined to put a stop to flooding

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government will soon start to rid canals of garbage to keep water flowing smoothly.

City administrator James Abadia yesterday said the cleaning of a drainage at the back of the Cebu Rolling Hills in sitio Orel in barangay Banilad two weeks ago produced 26 sacks of garbage, which included stones.

He said the city has arrived at the conclusion that houses built along the Mahiga creek as well as garbage in the drainage contribute to the flooding of A. S. Fortuna Street in barangay Banilad.

He said a harness had to be used in place of a suction pump to remove the garbage from the drainage in sitio Orel.

Abadia also said drainages will now be covered with screens. - THE FREEMAN
