Lechon sellers warned

CEBU, Philippines - In reaction to complaints, the office of the Mandaue City veterinarian has threatened to run after roasted pig (lechon) sellers in the city if they continue to defy some provisions found in the sanitary ordinance.

Veterinarian Daisy Penetrante said Ordinance No.11-2009-508 requires all lechon owners in the city to properly wrap their merchandise when being delivered and that handlers should be physically fit and appropriately dressed.

She said an inspection team has warned some lechon stalls along A.C. Cortes Street in barangay Cambaro for failing to wrap their lechon.

A repeat of the offense would compel the city to impose a fine on the stall owners of P1,000 or a 30-day imprisonment, or both, upon the discretion the court.  (THE FREEMAN)
