No excess baggage

The kid is all right: Herschel Supply Co’s Spring 2014 Kids Collection includes a Checkerboard design, available in Kids and the larger Youth sizes.

Herschel Supply’s Spring/Summer offering features the no-fuss functionality that has made them a cult favorite.

MANILA, Philippines - Ever notice that the greater the adventure, the simpler the luggage? After all, you don’t really hear of stories about trekking tall mountains or venturing into unknown beaches while lugging around a battalion of luxury leather cases. (At least, not in this century.)

In the grand tradition of those who enjoy taken the unbeaten path, Herschel Supply’s Spring/ Summer offering features the no-fuss functionality that has made them a cult favorite, but with peppy prints and bright colors for a touch of whimsy. The Duck and Camo Paradise Collection, for one, juxtaposes two contrasting prints that work surprisingly well — the utilitarian camouflage and Hawaiian floral. Herschel’s collaboration with Californian artist Kevin Butler evokes the best of summer in his Rad Cars with Rad Surfboards prints: durable backpacks and duffles printed in Butler’s illustrations. For those who prefer those rough-and-tumble journeys, the Studio Collection is exclusively done in sailcloth that can withstand wear and tear.

As the height of summer draws near, adventures are sure to get grander and grander. And with Herschel Supply’s in-your-face colorblocking and refreshing prints, toting a cool bag has now become part of the journey. — Margarita Buenaventura
