Can you be the first Filipino in space?

MANILA, Philippines - Last January, Axe Philippines announced the impossible: the launch of the first Filipino to space. The “First Pinoy Astronaut” will be sent on a sub-orbital space flight together with 22 others from different parts of the planet to celebrate the launch of Axe’s newest fragrance called Axe Apollo, stuff that they say will make you smell like a space hero.

Axe Philippines has narrowed the search from over 28,000 applicants down to two: a Philippine Air Force jet fighter pilot-in-training and an unassuming “regular juan” who hails from Cavite.

Evan Rey Datuin demonstrated that he has what it takes to become the first Filipino space hero.  After surviving a grueling gauntlet of trials laid out at the Axe Apollo National Challenges, this self-professed sci-fi enthusiast, mountaineer, and gym buff could very well live out his dreams of 2001: A Space Odyssey as he embarks on a journey to become the Philippines’ first astronaut.

“I’m eager to experience everything needed to become an astronaut. I’m excited to go through G-centrifuge simulations, to maneuver in a weightless environment, and of course, experience high-altitude flight.  I know I have what it takes to best those challenges,” he said. “Life is a gamble.  The more we play things safe, the less we actually accomplish.  Coming up on top of the Axe Apollo National Challenge was only possible for me because I followed my gut.”

The two finalists will be joined by another Filipino through the Axe Apollo Hyperdrive Promo. Send entries for an instant chance to be part of the Axe Apollo Space Academy.  The third winner will get a golden ticket to the Axe Apollo Space Camp in Florida to become the third official member of the Philippine delegation.
