Pia Wurtzbach discusses advocacies with leaders in New York

MANILA, Philippines - Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach recently talked to targeted organizations in New York that can help her advance her advocacies as the newly crowned Miss Universe.

The discussion, according to a DFA statement was facilitated by Consul General De Leon who also shared with Wurtzbach the possibility of teaming up with the Consulate General to help her work on her advocacies such as disaster relief, HIV awareness and fight against cyberbullying, during her courtesy call to his office.

For her HIV awareness campaign, Wurtzbach sat down with UNAIDS-NY, which gave her vital information on the global state of HIV-AIDS and gave inputs on projects that she can collaborate. For disaster relief, she talked to the leaders of Friends Indeed, a Filipino community charity organization that sends medical, humanitarian and relief missions to the Philippines especially in times of disasters, such as after typhoon Sendong in Cagayan De Oro.

She as well sat down with the president of APICHA Community Health Center, an organization providing medical and health assistance for underserved and vulnerable people, especially Asians and Pacific Islanders, the LGBT Community and individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

A short press conference with members of the Filipino-American media was held afterwards, before she proceeded with the meet-and-greet with some of her kababayans in Kalayaan Hall.
