MANILA, Philippines – Is getting in shape part of your New Year’s Resolutions?

If you’re planning on revamping your eating habits to achieve that certain weight or shape, you should keep the following tips in mind. By intentionally losing weight, you can be sure to fulfill at least this one thing in your list of resolutions.

1. Set an event goal.

One of the greatest motivations to cut back on what you eat, especially for ladies, is that outfit you badly want to wear to an event. You’d always want to look good in every important happening in your life—wedding, party, date night, job interview, and the like—and when meeting new people during these events. This idea will help you stay focused on your diet program and successfully achieve that look for the big day.

2. Decide not to cheat.

When sumptuous food is right before you, it’s just too hard to resist. The struggle is really real.

But cheating on your diet, or making compromises by deviating from your program, will not help you at all. No matter how tempting food can be, decide to stick with your plan. Remember that you need to be consistent to actually lose weight and reach your goal.

Some people are surprised that they didn’t lose much weight after their so-called weight loss program even though they felt really hungry or deprived during the entire process. This is because they failed to be consistent in veering away from the bad stuff.

3. Make your own meals.

Nothing helps you stay committed to your diet (especially when you have come as far as the middle of your targeted duration) more than cooking your own meals. It might be difficult at first but it’s certainly worth it.

If you keep a full-time job, the meal choices around you are most likely unhealthy. You then need healthier alternatives to sustain your diet program. The best way to do this is pick the ingredients yourself at the supermarket and make your own meals.

This may mean waking up earlier to prepare your food, which most people find really hard at first. But even if this makes you feel like giving up on your diet, you’d eventually realize that you have actually developed a habit and you’ve come this far to reach your goal.

4. Drink lots of water.

Diets, especially the detox ones where you only get to eat fruits and vegetables in some days, require a minimum of two liters of water per day. Water truly helps ease nausea, digests food much faster, and gets you through the day feeling much fuller and energized.

Remember that drinking water helps you feel hydrated and strong—enough to get you through a difficult diet plan.

5. Share your progress to a friend.

Not everyone around you will understand what you’re going through if you decide to be on a diet. But having at least one friend to support you will greatly help you stay focused and committed. This person can be there for you when you feel like giving up or when you need motivation or even recipes.

6. Dont go hungry.

One sign you’re doing your diet wrong is when you always feel hungry and deprived. Dieting must always make you feel better about yourself.

The idea is to simply eat healthier food each time you feel like you’re about to go hungry. Instead of allowing your tummy to complain, preempt the hunger by filling yourself up with your home-cooked vegetable soup and/or fresh fruits, for example.

7. Exercise.

Having a physical activity can help double the effect of your weight loss efforts. But the key here is, again, consistency.

If your neighborhood has a nice path and view for everyday jogs or walks, take advantage of it and get on your feet. There are also a lot of residences now where a nearby gym and other sports facilities like swimming pools and basketball courts are very accessible.

You can check out the likes of The Little Baguio Terraces in San Juan City, Pioneer Woodlands in Mandaluyong City, and San Lorenzo Place in Makati City. These residential developments give importance to health and wellness, thus their modern amenities.
