ManilaArt 2010 at SMX

MANILA, Philippines - Now in its second year, ManilaArt, the country’s international art fair, will be held on July 29 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The strictly-by-invitation-only affair will be hosted by Patricia Bermudez-Histon. Prima Ballerina Liza Macuja-Elizalde will perform a special number.

Enjoy an art-filled weekend with a graffiti art demonstration, “Hepe ng Lansangan,” with up-and-coming artist Buen Abrigo and his team of street painters on Friday.

Lectures on “The Ateneo Art Awards” by Ramon Lerma Jr., “Legal issues in Expression” by Atty. Trixie Angeles; and Cid Reyes’ “Public Domain, Private Hell: A Study of Images in Contemporary Art” will be held on July 29.

On July 31, the lectures are as follows: “Sparks: Illuminating the Filipino Self” by Jose Tence Ruiz; and “The Preservation and Conservation of Works of Art on Paper” by Alexandra Bothello. The ManilaArt10 Finale Auction, organized by Vita Sarenas of Finale Art Gallery, also gets underway.

The Saturday Group will hold an on-the-spot painting session, while Alliance Francaise de Manille will give a lecture on “Artwork Photography” on Aug. 1.
