Ronnie Liang brings OPM to Canada, gears up for 'Pinoy Dream Academy' reunion

MANILA, Philippines — Singer and licensed pilot Ronnie Liang brought Original Pilipino Music (OPM) to Filipino communities in Canada through a series of performances, entertaining overseas Filipinos in Calgary and Niagara, with another show scheduled in Brampton.

Ronnie performed at the Taste of the Philippines 2026 in Calgary on August 1 and the Niagara Fiesta Extravaganza 2026 on August 2. He is also set to perform at the Brampton Fiesta Extravaganza 2026 on August 9.

Reflecting on his recent performances, Ronnie said singing before Filipinos abroad was a meaningful experience, highlighting music's ability to connect people regardless of where they are.

“The August 1 and August 2 shows were both enjoyable and fulfilling. Singing in front of the Filipino community in Canada moved me deeply because the power of music has always been to bring people together. From mothers to kids, everyone was enjoying the songs. Everybody was connected. Everybody was singing along. I felt honored to be chosen as a performer,” he said.

Ronnie shared that performing for overseas Filipinos is always something he looks forward to, saying he hopes to give audiences a sense of home through his music.

“I'm always thrilled to receive an invitation to perform overseas where Filipinos are present. As a performer, I believe it is your responsibility to use your music, passion, and spirit to make the audience feel as though they are in the Philippines,” he added.

The singer also expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received from the Filipino community in Canada, recalling memorable interactions with fans.

“The Filipino community has always been welcoming and supportive of Pinoy artists. My interaction with them was memorable, as they treated me well and showered me with hugs. The song 'Ngiti' was perfect for serenading our hardworking kababayans,” he said.

Known for hits including "Ngiti," Ronnie said he makes it a point to give his best in every performance by connecting with the audience beyond simply singing.

“I ensured that my energy was at its peak. I've always been sincere in my performances. Aside from delivering the vocals, you must entertain them because they have invested time and energy in you. As artists, we must give our all,” he said.

Ronnie recently released two new songs, "Bayan Ko" and "Kailan Ako Bibitaw."

Aside from his solo projects, Ronnie is also preparing for the upcoming "Pinoy Dream Academy" Alumni Homecoming concert, where he serves as one of the co-producers.

The reunion concert, which marks 20 years since the reality singing competition's first season, is scheduled for September 19 at the Music Museum.

“This is our first big show together in 20 years, and everyone is working together to ensure that the upcoming concert is a success. We are currently selecting songs that will reflect our journey,” Ronnie said.

He added that while the contestants have pursued different careers over the years, the friendships they formed during the competition have remained strong.

“Our careers have taken different paths, but our care for one another has always existed. 'Pinoy Dream Academy' taught us how to dream big and form lasting bonds, and we continue to apply those lessons today.”

Ronnie said he hopes the reunion concert will not only celebrate the alumni's two-decade journey but also inspire a new generation of aspiring performers to pursue their dreams.
