MANILA, Philippines — Caloy has weakened to a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday.

In a press briefing, PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said that Caloy was downgraded after it entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

It was last located 680 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, moving westward at 15 km per hour and packing winds of 45 kph and gusts of 55 kph.

While Caloy will not make landfall and will not directly affect the country, its trough will bring scattered rains in Eastern Visayas and Caraga.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area is being monitored 2,265 km east of Northeastern Mindanao.

PAGASA said it is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone and enter PAR in the next 24 hours.
