MANILA, Philippines —  The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing orientation programs for Filipinos traveling abroad and foreigners visiting the Philippines.

In an initial consultation held at the DFA office, representatives from international organizations and diplomatic missions of countries with significant Filipino communities convened to assess current efforts and share best practices in traveler education and cross-cultural preparation.

The DFA said the initiative forms part of its continuing efforts to promote safer and more informed travel among Filipinos and to support mutual understanding with the country’s international partners.

Among the participants were delegates from the embassies of Canada, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, New Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and the United States, along with representatives from the International Organization for Migration and the New Zealand Filipino Community’s Whakamana Program.

Key Philippine government agencies, including the Department of Migrant Workers and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, also joined the discussions, presenting updates on the content and implementation of Pre-departure and Post-arrival Orientation Seminars.

Participants tackled strategies to tailor seminars to specific destinations and traveler profiles, discussed opportunities for inter-agency and international collaboration and underscored the importance of fostering cultural understanding and legal compliance among travelers.

“This ensures that our citizens are equipped and empowered to navigate the challenges of travel, whether for work, commerce, study, tourism or migration,” said DFA Undersecretary Jesus Domingo.
