UP Manila, Diliman enter world rankings

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines Manila and UP Diliman entered the top university rankings as the only two schools in the country able to make it to the world 2025 Center for World University Rankings.
The result of the CWUR’s Global 2000 list was released last June 2 where Harvard University ranked first among the 21,462 institutions evaluated.
Harvard University was ranked number one in North America; also in education, employability, faculty and research as it garnered a score of 100.

In the Asian universities ranking, UP Manila placed at 646 and overtook China’s Hainan Medical University, Liaoning Normal University, Zhejiang Ocean University, Ningxia Medical University, Air Force Engineering University, Shaoxing University, Sri Lanka’s University of Peradeniya and Japan’s Kyorin University.

In March 2025, UP Manila secured the 479th spot in the top 500 Best Global Universities ranked by US News & World Report. It was the only Philippine University in the ranking published by the US-based digital media company. The rankings were based on 13 indicators that measure the educational institutions’ academic research performance and their global and regional reputations, including the number of publications produced, total citations, books, international collaborations, conferences, regional research reputation and global research reputation.
Meanwhile, UP Diliman ranked at 1,784, representing the top 8.4 percent of the world. The university’s national rank is two; research rank is 1,711 and its overall score is 67.
Among Asian universities, UP Diliman placed at 696.
Aside from Harvard University, the Top 10 universities include Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Princeton University, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, Yale University and California Institute of Technology.
CWUR has been publishing the academic ranking of global universities since 2012 to help governments and universities improve educational and research outcomes. The universities are ranked according to four factors without relying on surveys and university data submissions: education (25 percent), employability (25 percent), quality of faculty (10 percent), and research (40 percent).
