MANILA, Philippines — Only two out of five Filipinos, or 39 percent of adults, said they would celebrate Valentine’s Day, according to the latest survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

According to the study, 20 percent said they were “very likely” and 18 percent “somewhat likely” to celebrate Feb. 14. Twenty-seven percent said they would not celebrate it, while 31 percent were undecided.

The survey also found that a majority of adult Filipinos who would celebrate Valentine’s Day tomorrow would “go to church or attend religious services.”

Twenty-seven percent would “give gifts to their spouse or loved ones,” 25 percent would “prepare special food at home with their spouse or loved ones” and 11 percent would “send Valentine greetings through online or SMS.”

The poll was conducted from Nov. 21 to 25 last year, through face-to-face interviews of 1,500 adults, 18 years old and above.

Happily married

When asked about their romantic endeavors, 50 percent of adult Filipinos said they are very happy (napakasaya) with their love life, a slight improvement from the 49 percent back in 2014.

Data stated that married men and married women have a happier love life than their single and with-live-in-partner counterparts.

On the other hand, 31 percent of respondents said their love life could be happier (sana mas masaya pa) and 18 percent said they do not have a love life (walang  buhay pag-ibig), surpassing the previous record of 14 percent in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

With regard to age groups, the proportion of happy lovers was 35 percent among 18-24, 58 percent among ages 35-44, 54 percent among 25-34, 51 percent among 45-54 and 49 percent among those aged 55 and above.
