MANILA, Philippines — Only four national roads in Bicol remained closed to traffic due to collapsed road slope protection, fallen trees and electrical posts after the area was devastated by Super Typhoon Rolly, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said yesterday.
Villar inspected the storm-ravaged towns in Albay and confirmed that national roads have been cleared by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) teams while one road in Camarines Sur and three other roads in Catanduanes remain closed.
In Camarines Sur, DPWH is still clearing the Lagonoy-Caramoan Road in Ancolan, Presentacion where the road slope protection collapsed, while sections of Catanduanes circumferential road were closed by landslides and fallen trees in Baranagy Balongbong in Bato town, Barangay Libod, Pandan, Barangay Puting Baybay, San Andres, Barangay Francia, Virac. Fallen electrical posts also closed the Bato-Baras Road and Baras-Gigmoto-Viga Road.
DPWH has so far cleared a total of 26 road sections that were closed due to typhoon, which is composed of four in the Cordillera Administrative Region, one in Region 3, two each for Regions 4-A and 4-B and 21 in Region 5.
Estimated cost of damage to infrastructure has reached P5.757 billion.
