MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will conduct counter-intelligence operations against police officers drinking liquor in public, NCRPO chief Director Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said yesterday.

Eleazar gave the directive in compliance with President Duterte’s order banning members of the police force from drinking in public places such as bars and nightclubs.

“Our counter-intelligence units will undertake  validations of those reports,” Eleazar told radio station dzBB.

Those who will be caught could face administrative charges and dismissal from the service for violating the Philippine National Police (PNP)’s code of professional conduct and ethical standards, he said.

Eleazar echoed PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde’s statement that places of ill-repute are off limits to policemen.

He said police officers seen drinking in public places especially when they are wearing their uniform are not only prone to creating trouble but also give the PNP a bad image.

What is allowed, according to Eleazar, is social drinking during fellowships and other social activities.
