13 nabbed for indiscriminate firing
MANILA, Philippines — Thirteen people, including three policemen, were arrested for illegal discharge of firearms during the Yuletide season, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said yesterday.
PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Benigno Durana Jr. said the violators were apprehended from Dec. 16 to 26.
One of the police officers was arrested in Metro Manila while the other two were caught while illegally using their firearms in Central Luzon.
The PNP has yet to release other details, including the names of the policemen as well as the exact dates and places where the incidents happened.
The erring policemen are now facing administrative charges.
The other violators consist of five civilians, one soldier, one security guard, a personnel from another law enforcement agency, one security guard and a government official.
The other cases of illegal discharge of firearms took place in Ilocos, Bicol, Western Visayas and Northern Mindanao.
The PNP has also recorded two cases of stray bullet incidents, one in Metro Manila and another in the Cordillera region.
