MANILA, Philippines — A Filipina was found dead floating in a river in Sabah, Malaysia over a week ago, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday.

A plantation worker found the body of Madelyn Bernardo Asuncion floating on Pengalan River in Melalap, Sabah on Nov. 28, the agency said, citing a report from the Philippine embassy in Malaysia.

Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles Jose said investigators found enough evidence to classify the case as a possible homicide.

He said the embassy is waiting for the official report of the incident and the result of the autopsy from authorities.

The DFA extended its condolences to the family of Asuncion, who hails from Zamboanga City.

The victim had been staying for the past 10 years in Malaysia with her father, who assisted authorities in identifying her remains.
