MANILA, Philippines — State weather bureau PAGASA on Friday announced that the season of southwest monsoon or “habagat” has officially ended.
In a statement, PAGASA administrator Vicente Malano said there was a “significant weakening of the southwest monsoon winds” or the weather system associated with rainy season over the past few days.
“With this development, the southwest monsoon season, known as ‘habagat’ has ended,” he said.
Malano added that this development signals that the cool weather associated with the holiday season is approaching.
“The strengthening of the high pressure systems over the Asian continent suggests the gradual transition of the season. The pattern will lead to the beginning of the northeast monsoon “amihan” season in the coming days,” he said.
‘Amihan’ usually comes around late October to early November. It brings cool, dry winds. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
