CCTV footage will prove Paras wrong — Trillanes
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV has asked for a copy of the CCTV of the May 29 Senate session to debunk Labor Undersecretary Jacinto Paras’ accusations against him.
Trillanes filed a one-page letter of request to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III hours after Paras filed the grave threat rap before Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.
The senator said that the video “will be used in [his] response” to the case.

Trillanes was also quoted in reports as saying to reporters that it was Paras who initiated the handshake and that he rejected it. The CCTV will show that Paras was lying, said the senator.
Cited in particular in the complaint is the Senate hearing on the Oversight Committee in Foreign Workers last May 29 that the two attended.
According to Paras, Trillanes went up to him and said: “Ang lakas ng loob mo. Hindi magtatagal ang amo mo. Matatapos din 'yan. Yayariin kita. Mercenaryo ka. Yayariin kita.”
(You have guts. Your boss will not last long. That will soon end. I will finish you. You are a mercenary. I will finish you.)
But the senator was unfazed with the complaint as he said that Paras has “zero credibility of a cellphone thief.”
The senator was referring to the theft complaint filed by Rep. Tom Villarin (Akbayan) against Paras. The labor undersecretary said Villarin’s allegation is “malicious,” adding that he only “accidentally lifted” the lawmaker’s phone.
Paras is a known supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, while Trillanes is one of the most vocal critics of the chief executive.
This is also the second time that the spat involving the two officials ended up in a case before a local court.
