'Urduja' to make landfall over Samar on Saturday

MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Caraga, the Visayas and Bicol Region should prepare for flooding and landslides as Tropical Storm Urduja is forecast to make landfall over Samar on Saturday, Pagasa said.

In a severe weather bulletin, Pagasa said the storm was 240 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar and forecast to move northwest at 5 kph.

The storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph and is expected to make landfall over Northern Samar and Eastern Samar on Saturday morning and afternoon.

The storm is expected to bring moderate to heavy within its 500-km diameter.

"Scattered to widespread rains will continue over Eastern Visayas and Caraga and is expected to prevail over Bicol Region and the rest of Visayas within 24 hours," Pagasa also said.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 2 has been raised over Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar and Biliran.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 has been raised over Leyte, Southern Leyte, Northern Cebu, Capiz, Aklan, Northern Iloilo and the Dinagat Islands.
