Duterte names son-in-law’s brother as new DA assistant secretary

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday appointed Waldo Carpio as an assistant secretary of the Department of Agriculture.

"Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed Assistant Secretary, Department of Agriculture, vice Federico E. Laciste Jr.,” Duterte’s appointment letter dated September 6 read.

"By virtue hereof, you may qualify and enter upon the performance of the duties of the office, furnishing this Office and the Civil Service Commission with copies of your oath of office,” it added.

Carpio is the brother of  Duterte’s son-in-law, Manases “Mans” Carpio. Mans is the husband of the presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The president is one of the principal sponsors of the wedding of Waldo and Regine Carpio who got married in September last year.

Waldo is also the nephew of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
