Fair weather expected until New Year – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines - Fair weather is expected to prevail in most parts of the country today and tomorrow except for some parts of Northern Luzon, which may experience rains due to the tail-end of a cold front.

Rene Paciente, senior weather forecaster at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said rainy weather is likely over the eastern section of Northern Luzon this weekend.

The rest of Luzon will have good weather apart from occasional light rains, he added.

Good weather would also prevail over the Visayas and Mindanao, although isolated thunderstorms are to be expected.

Paciente said the low-pressure area off the Pacific Ocean has dissipated but a new cloud cluster, which may bring rains over Mindanao next week was spotted.

“It is expected to develop into a low-pressure area and make landfall over Mindanao,” Paciente told The STAR.

The developing low-pressure area, however, has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone but may bring moderate to heavy rainfall over the island, he added.

On Christmas Day, Typhoon Nina (international name Nock-Ten) slammed into Southern Luzon, leaving at least seven people dead and billions of pesos worth of damage.
