Signal No. 1 up in Catanduanes, Samar provinces as 'Carina' maintains strength

MANILA, Philippines — PAGASA raised Signal No. 1 over Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar as Tropical Depression Carina barrels northwest at 11 kph.

Carina maintained strength with maximum winds of 45 kph near the center, the state weather bureau said in its 8 p.m. severe weather bulletin Friday.

At 7 p.m., the center of the tropical depression was spotted at 115 km east northeast of Borongan City.

It is forecast to bring an estimated moderate to heavy rainfall amount within its 300 km diameter.

PAGASA alerted areas under Signal No. 1, the rest of Visayas and the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate against moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Fisherfolk were also alerted against moderate to rough seas over the eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas.

Carina is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Monday next week.
