MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo will hold a leadership position in the Liberal Party (LP) as stated by the rules of the political party.

Robredo said the LP has yet to meet formally after President Rodrigo Duterte's first state of the nation address on July 25.

"Wala naman ako sa core group ng partido although ang rules ng partido ang mag-take ng leadership position ay ang highest elected official, which happens to be me," Robredo told members of the press on Tuesday.

Robredo said she cannot speak for the party regarding its role in the Duterte administration as they have not met yet.

The vice president added that she has never held a leadership position in the party before and that she is still considered a new member.

Pero it is a matter that has to be settled by the membership," the vice president said.

Robredo paid a courtesy call on Duterte at the Malacañan Palace on Monday. The vice president described the closed-door meeting as "cordial."

Both the president and the vice president had agreed to help each other to better the country, Robredo said.
