MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos on Wednesday evening prayed for the speedy recovery of his running mate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago who was hospitalized due to complications.

“We join the whole nation in praying for the immediate recovery of Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago,” Marcos said in a statement.

“Senator Santiago has proven to be a relentless fighter against corruption and incompetence in government all throughout her career. It is our hope that she again wins this fight and be on her way to full recovery,” he added.

Miriam’s husband, Narciso Santiago Jr., said his wife was rushed by ambulance to the Makati Medical Center last Monday and was transferred from her private room to the intensive care unit (ICU) on Tuesday. The office of the senator on Thursday, however, said the senator is “feeling better now and is scheduled to return from ICU to a private room."

Narciso earlier said Miriam is “bearing well with her trademark sense of humor. The staff of Miriam said the senator thanks her supporters for their well wishes and concern.

Miriam was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer in 2014. She declared she has beaten cancer a year after and decided to pursue her presidential bid.

Last May 24, Miriam said she will continue the remaining days of her term in the Senate on medical leave for cancer.
