Trinity picks STAR as best broadsheet

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine STAR was cited as Best National Broadsheet at the Platinum Stallion Media Awards 2016 of Trinity University of Asia (TUA) in Quezon City on Wednesday.

TUA students, professors and the rest of the academic community voted for The STAR, citing relevant inspiration rendered to the intellectual and social growth of the institution through its outstanding contributions to the media industry.

The annual event is part of TUA’s effort to honor the best and brightest personalities and shows in Philippine media.

Marichu Villanueva, associate editor of The STAR, received the glass trophy signed by university president Josefina Sumaya and chairman Jerry Navarrete during rites held at the university campus theater. 

“This award is more meaningful and comes at a time that The STAR is observing its 30 years in the print media industry,” Villanueva said after receiving the award from TUA officials.

The other winners were ABS-CBN Channel 2 for Best TV Station; Sandra Aguinaldo, Most Trusted Female Field Reporter; Julius Babao, Best Male News Anchor; Mike Enriquez, Best Male A.M. Broadcast Journalist; Bandila, Best News Program; Rey Pumaloy of Abante, Best Male Print Journalist; dzBB, Best A.M. Radio Station; People’s Tonight, Best National Tabloid; and CNN Philippines, Best News Channel.

Jerrold Tarog’s historical film “Heneral Luna” was awarded as Best Student-Oriented Film while John Arcilla bagged the Best Film Actor award.

GMA7’s “Eat Bulaga” won as Best Noontime Show while Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza of the phenomenal love team AlDub were chosen as Trinitian Awardee for Male Advertiser and Trinitian Awardee for Female Advertiser, respectively.
