Luzon areas under storm signal as 'Kabayan' intensifies

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression "Kabayan" (international name TwentyTwo) slightly accelerated and intensified on Thursday afternoon, prompting authorities to raise storm warning signals over areas of central and northern Luzon on Thursday.

In its 5 p.m. advisory, state weather bureau PAGASA said the center of "Kabayan" was estimated  105 north northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte.

It sustains winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and tracks northwest at 20 kph.

Public Storm warning signal no. 1 has been hoisted over the following areas expected to experience 30 to 60 kph winds in 36 hours:

  • Southern Isabela
  • Ifugao
  • Mt. Province
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Benguet
  • Nueva Viscaya
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Quirino
  • Pangasinan
  • Zambales
  • Tarlac
  • Pampanga
  • Bulacan
  • Catanduanes
  • Camarines Sur
  • Camarines Norte
  • Aurora
  • Northern Quezon including Polillo Island

The cyclone is expected to be 90 kilometers northwest of Baguio City in Benguet province on Friday afternoon. It is also likely to move to 520 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte by Saturday afternoon, or outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
