MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has reassured the Filipino people that he will keep on the straight path toward prosperity and that his administration is guided by the example of Jesus Christ in doing its best for the country and the next generation.

In his Lenten message, Aquino also called on Filipinos to follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ by being selfless and doing what is best for mankind so that future generations will inherit a nation that prioritizes the interest of many.

He cited the importance of mercy and compassion for the poor, which was one of the lessons imparted by Pope Francis in his visit to Manila last January.

The President also reassured the public of the determination of the administration to achieve inclusive growth until he steps down in June 2016.

“You can count on it: through the straight path, we are repulsing any form of wrongdoing to immediately deliver benefits to our countrymen,” Aquino said in Filipino.

“The challenge to us followers of Jesus Christ: let us be true not only in words but also in deeds. In our continuing contribution and unity and with the guidance and love of the Lord, we will be blessed to have a future that is meaningful to everyone,” he added.
