PNoy inspects Zamboanga blast site

MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III arrived at Zamboanga City to inspect the site of the car bomb attack last Friday.

 

According to a report from radio dzMM, Aquino arrived at Edwin Andrews Air Base this morning for a security briefing.

 

Two persons were dead and 54 were wounded during the bombing incident.

 

The Palace condemned the act of violence which is suspected to be caused by the Abu Sayyaf bandit group.

 

“Kaisa natin ang buong sambayanan sa mariing pagkondena ng insidente ng pagpapasabog sa lungsod ng Zamboanga na ikinasawi ng dalawang katao at ikinasugat ng 50 iba pa,” said Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr. said in an interview with radio dzRB.

 

Coloma assured that the intelligence community is on top of the situation. 

 

The Armed Forces and the Philippine National Police is focused on preventing any security threat to the country, Coloma added.

 

“Kasalukuyan nang tinutunton ng PNP (Philippine National Police) ang ilang posibleng leads na makapagtuturo sa kinalulugaran ng mga salarin. Hindi tatantanan ng pamahalaan ang pagtugis sa mga sangkot sa insidente upang panagutin sila sa batas,” Coloma said.

 

Zamboanga City mayor Ma. Isabela Climaco-Salazar earlier said the bombing is connected to the incident wherein bandits attempted to rescue their detained comrades.

 

The suspects left the car rigged with an improvised explosive device between a bar and a food stall in Barangay Guiwan.
