'Seniang' maintains strength, threatens Agusan

MANILA, Philippines - Tropical Storm "Seniang" has maintained its strength as it moves towards Agusan del Norte, state weather bureau PAGASA said before Monday noon.

PAGASA said Seniang was located at 33 kilometers northeast of Butuan City or 30 kilometers east of Cabadbaran City at 10 a.m. today.

The storm was still packed with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

Seniang was forecast to move west northwest at 11 kph.

Heavy to intense rainfall was estimated within the 300-kilometer diameter of the tropical storm, PAGASA said.

Residents in low lying and mountainous areas of the provinces with the storm signals, particularly the Caraga Region as well as Eastern Visayas and the rest of Mindanao, are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

PAGASA also warned that ocean waves may reach up to five meters high due to the storm.
