PNoy to youth: Too much selfie, Clash of Clans bad for you

President Benigno Aquino III acknowledged the importance of the role of the youth in social reform during his speech at the Youth Summit 2014 held in Quezon City on Friday.

MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III on Friday warned the youth not to spend too much time on taking "selfies" or playing "Clash of Clans."

"Kung puro selfie at pagpapalakas ng town sa Clash of Clans naman ang aatupagin, syempre talagang mag-ga-game over ang mga pangarap natin," Aquino said during his speech at the Youth Summit.

The President also reminded the youth to be wary of information that they acquire from the internet.

"Wag n’yo sanang malimutan ang maging mapanuri. Hindi porke nakalagay sa internet ay totoo na agad. Hindi porke viral o trending ay dapat nang pagkaabalahan," the President said.

Aquino highlighted the importance of the youth's role in social reform and cited their idealism as the main factor of change.

The President said that the unity between the old and the new generation of idealists is an unstoppable force in changing the society.

Getting older tends to make a people compromise some of their principles or beliefs they had when they were younger, Aquino added.

"The youth, therefore, is the main means to rekindle these principles, this idealism that might have become a little shall we say --- I wouldn’t want to use the word tarnish, but perhaps forgotten by the older set," Aquino said.
