Intense rainfall warning up in Calabarzon

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued an orange rainfall warning for provinces near Metro Manila due to Typhoon "Ruby."

Based on PAGASA's color-coded rainfall advisories, an orange warning is raised when 15-30 millimeters (intense) of rainfall  was observed within one hour and expected to continue in the next two hours.

The orange alert is up in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon. Flooding is considered a definite threat in communities under the orange alert.

A yellow rainfall warning also remains hoisted over Metro Manila, Pampanga, Bataan and Bulacan where heavy rainfall is expected and flooding is possible.

The areas with the rainfall warnings had been placed under storm signals due to Ruby, which weakend into a storm packing maximum winds of 105 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of 135 kph.

Ruby was forecast to move west northwest 10 kph.

PAGASA weather forecaster Chris Perez said in a televised press conference that Ruby isexpected to make its third landfall between 11 a.m. and 12 noon over Torrijos, Marinduque and its fourth landfall over Batangas province between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Perez warned that Metro Manila will experience more rains tonight if Ruby maintains its diameter of about 500 kilometers.

He said the center of the storm will be closest to Metro Manila - 60 kilometers away - at 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
